The ministry of lectors holds an important place in the life and worship of our parish. Lectors are entrusted with the responsibility of proclaiming the Word of God to the Christian community during the celebration of the Holy Mass. Through their ministry, they help the faithful to listen attentively to God speaking to His people through Sacred Scripture.
Recognizing the importance of this responsibility, our parish lectors usually meet every Saturday for training and preparation for the Sunday liturgical celebrations. During these sessions, they practise the readings, work on pronunciation and clarity, reflect on the meaning of the biblical texts, and learn how to proclaim the Word with confidence, reverence and understanding.
The Saturday training is not merely about improving public speaking. It is also an opportunity for the lectors to deepen their relationship with the Word of God and to appreciate the responsibility entrusted to them by the Church. A good lector does not simply read a passage; he or she helps the congregation encounter God's Word and reflect on its message in their daily lives.
The ministry therefore calls for commitment, prayer, preparation and humility. By faithfully preparing for each Sunday celebration, the lectors contribute to making the liturgy more prayerful and meaningful for the entire parish community.
